The overall mechanics writing of Task 2 (MUET)
This post will give you an insight on what are the elements that make up a good piece of writing for Task 2 of MUET
MUET is a technical piece of writing and many candidates struggle with Task 2 of the written exam. Task 2 requires you to build your arguments in a specific way. Task 2 starts off with a prompt and based on that prompt, you need to craft your argument.
Let's start off with the introduction. What makes a good introduction? A good introduction 4 elements, which are (1) a lead-in, (2) a background, (3) a stand, and (4) a thesis statement. The accompanying image gives you more insight into each element.
What about the body of your essay? Each paragraph will need these 4 elements, which are (1) a topic statement, (2) elaborations, (3) concrete examples, and (4) a tie-up; this will create a solid structure for your paragraph/argument.
So, we are at the final paragraph of Task 2, your conclusion. A good conclusion has 3 elements, (1) a concluding statement, (2) restate/re-emphasis of points, and (3) a final statement to call for action/ suggest a consequence or result. The image gives more details!
To conclude, these are just frameworks to help you guide your writing. It should not be treated as the 'only right way' in framing your arguments. Ultimately, it really comes down to the prompt. There are times when you will provide examples and no elaborations, and vice versa.
